The Bayelsa State Branch of the Trefoil Guild Nigeria commemorated the International Women’s Day with an impactful outreach to students of Saint Jude’s Girls Secondary School, Amarata, Yenagoa. The event, which drew participation from both teachers and students, focused on empowering young girls through mentorship, education, and personal development.
Delivering the welcome address, the State Deputy Coordinator, Mrs. Tanize Seighe, warmly received participants and provided an overview of the activities and vision of the Nigeria Girl Guides Association, highlighting its role in shaping responsible and confident young women.
A keynote presentation on the theme, “Give to Gain," delivered by Dame Dr. Comfort Alagoa, emphasized the importance of selflessness, encouraging students to engage in group studies, peer support, and knowledge sharing as pathways to academic and personal success. According to her, “when you give through collaboration and support, you ultimately gain better understanding and improved results.”
Other insightful sessions included “My Choice, My Destination – The Right to Say No,” presented by Prof. Ebi-Bulami B. Nemine, who educated the students on assertiveness, personal boundaries, and making informed life choices. Additionally, the National Public Relations Officer of the Guild, Elizabeth Ouserigha-Usen, spoke on “Maintaining Personal Hygiene,” stressing the importance of cleanliness and healthy living as essential components of personal development.
Interactive sessions with the students revealed a strong interest in joining the Girl Guide movement. The school principal, while expressing appreciation for the visit, described the Deputy Chief Commissioner, Zone A, NGGA, as “an agile and inspiring mother figure,” and commended the team for rekindling interest in guiding within the school.
